i-VICS (Intelligent Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperative Systems) is a next-generation support tool for vehicles and pedestrian safety.

+ Handheld devices with i-VICS APP enable drivers and pedestrians to access the system via a local WIFI provided by i-VICS RSU;
+ Handheld devices display the surrounding traffic conditions, including real-time status of the roads, signal lights, vehicles etc.;
+ Based on the information, handheld devices provide real-time road vehicle and pedestrian safety assessments, and warn users of any possible danger.

[What is i-VICS]
i-VICS is short for Intelligent Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperative System. Via wireless communication system, i-VICS shares location, moving speed of both pedestrians and vehicles, and traffic signal status. i-VICS is a new generation technology to enhance traffic safety, improve road efficiency and assist pedestrians crossing.

[Development of i-VICS]
A research team led by Tsinghua University started a 863 national project named "Key Technologies for Intelligent Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperative Systems" since November 2011. After a series of exploration and research being conducted on key technologies, development and demonstration of typical applications, this project completed the acceptance by the Ministry of Science and Technology on February 16, 2014. Thereafter several applications in Langfang Development Zone, Qingdao Laoshan District are carried out to show the charm of i-VICS -- the cooperation among people, vehicles and roads.
